The Pain in Ending

is the same as the beginning,

you say you love the way I can never sit still,

and the way I can never make up my mind.

You ravish my need to simply be and

take care of the fractures of my being,

a laugh slips from your lips while you smile as I

stutter nervously ordering a coffee

My attention to detail leaves our home sparkly clean

It’s 11:30, and I’ve checked the door 1,2,3 times

Before I say ‘here I come, my love’

You say you love my quirks

Until now, when you no longer look at me through

the lenses of love

Now, you wonder why I can’t make up my mind,

Why I’m sad on a rainy day and on a sunny day,

and just because that’s the only way I’ve known

the spark you saw in me, now burned out from reality

the love you had for me has backed into the corner,

afraid to be let down again.

Still, I hold my head steady and trace the linings

of my heart on my sleeve.
